The Poetic Urho I - The Kingdom

If there are any English readers on my blog, worry not; I am not going to write only in Finnish. After all, I am a student of translation with high-leveled skills in English. But since all my activity so far has been in Finnish, here's a treat in English.

This poem was written by me in the summer of 2006. It was conjured up in my mind while I was working at the local museum in my hometown, Joroinen. I heard a distant roar of thunder and felt a small rain drop on my cheek just as I was starting to mow the lawns, and I muttered to myself, "Welcome to the kingdom of thunder and rain..."

If one wants to find a meaning behind these words, well, there might be one related to the modern society. The thing is, back in 2006 it was not like this - not everyone wanted to gain celebrity status as actively as the modern human. To think of it, even blogging is a method for gaining fame.
(For some metaphors used in this I might have taken influences from the lyrics of Just Jack - Starz in Their Eyes.)

A sequel to this might be written one day, because I have been gathering all kinds of words that rhyme with -ain or -aim etc. And there are lots of them.

The Kingdom

Welcome to the kingdom of thunder and rain
Of agony and pain
Where people try to gain
Only success, but in vain
And where the game is always the same:
To get even a little name
In life's hall of fame
One must sustain
All of the world's strain
And still remain sane.
